Join the Tiny Tapeout Workshop at DTU!
Join the workshop to explore the fascinating world of microchips and gain hands-on experience designing your own. Whether you are a student, tech enthusiast, or simply curious about how chips work, this event is ideal for participants of all experience levels. Do not miss this unique opportunity to learn and create!
This event is sponsored by the Danish Chip Competence Center, Edu4Chip, Synopsys, and Syosil, and offers a chance to create something extraordinary: your own chip design!
What is Tiny Tapeout?
Tiny Tapeout makes chip design accessible to everyone, from complete beginners to seasoned professionals. This initiative simplifies and democratizes the process of creating and manufacturing your very own digital integrated circuits.
Tiny Tapeout is a revolutionary platform that brings your ideas to life by enabling you to design chips that are actually fabricated. It transforms concepts into real silicon, making chip design accessible to everyone, regardless of experience. Best of all, it is affordable!
Workshop Highlights
Matt Venn, the creator of Tiny Tapeout and an experienced electronic engineer specializing in open-source silicon, will be lecturing at the workshop.
- Draw Your First MOSFET: Start with the basics using SiliWiz.
- Simulate Logic Gates: Design and test digital circuits using Wokwi.
- Generate a GDS File: Create the layout data for chip manufacturing.
- Submit Your Design: Submit your custom design to Tiny Tapeout for fabrication.
This is the second time the Tiny Tapeout Workshop is hosted at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). After a very successful first edition, participants from a wide range of backgrounds, from students to industry professionals, walked away with their own chip designs and an unforgettable learning experience. Read more about the first workshop here.
Here’s what participants from the first workshop said:
-
"Lots of good energy! Super fun and got a lot done in 4 hours. Such a unique exciting workshop."
-
"I studied digital electronics (MSc) but stopped at the FPGA level, so it was amazing to get an intro to the lower level!"
-
"It was an amazing class. Did not think something like this was possible having been in industry for years and seeing the complexity of the process."
Who Can Attend?
This workshop is open to everyone, including:
- High school students
- University students
- Academics
- Professionals from all industries
- Makers
No prior hardware design experience is required! Just bring your curiosity and creativity.
If you are already working on a design, you are welcome to join the workshop and continue your work!
Workshop Details
- Date: Saturday February 21, 2026
- Time: 13:00 - 17:00
- Venue: Building 101, Meeting room M1, Technical University of Denmark, Kongens Lyngby. Find the location in Google Maps.
- Fee: 100 DKK
Important: The fee includes access to the workshop. After the workshop, all the design will be manufactured into a real chip thanks to our generous sponsors. If you want, you can order your own copy of the chip (Tiny Tapeout DevKit) for an additional fee. In any case, after production of the chips, DTU will organize a bringup party to test the designs. DTU will buy some DevKits to support this bringup party.
Important: You need to bring your own laptop to the workshop (a mouse is recommended).
